Graduate Chaplain in Residence for Online Students

Truett Seminary students have long served as chaplains in residence for the undergraduate population. Now, they will also serve their peers in the graduate student populations; with Kyle Perry serving as the chaplain for residential students and Jackson Giwa as the chaplain for online and hybrid students.

Jackson hails from Cameroon and is working towards his Master of Divinity. With 10 years of experience in pastoral ministry including church planting, church revitalization and church health, Jackson comes to us with a wealth of experience and insight to offer.

In his first semester as chaplain, Jackson’s main goal is visibility. He wants students to know that he is ready and available to talk to them and support them in whatever form pastoral care needs to be for them. From virtual bible studies and devotionals to one-on-one pastoral care, Jackson wants to make sure that his students feel supported.

Jackson said, “Online students strive to balance their life, relationships, and academics at the same time. We want to be there for them at any point of their lives.”

While Jackson’s officially in the office on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, he says students shouldn’t hesitate to reach out to him outside of those times. He says, “life doesn’t happen on my office schedule, I will be flexible and adjust to when they need me; not make them wait until it’s convenient for me or I’m on the clock so-to-speak.”

Students who wish to get in contact with Jackson should email him at GradChaplainOnline@baylor.edu.
